چکیده
Mechanisms of charging-up and charging-down Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) have been studied. Experimental investigations carried out on both dielectric polarization radiation charging GEMs. Environmental parameters, such as pressure temperature monitored to normalize their effects the measurements. Variation in gain due combined, well individual, mentioned parameters has illustrated.

Investigation of the operation of Thick Gas Electron Multiplier and Electron Multiplier Assembly for alpha particle detection
In this study, the detection of alpha particles in the high current mode is investigated in the presence of two gaseous electron multipliers in the micro-pattern structures. Thick Gas Electron Multiplier (TGEM) and an Electron Multiplier Assemblies (EMA) were designed and constructed as amplification gap in the detector chamber. An ion chamber is employed to measure the current of interaction b...
متن کاملImaging with the gas electron multiplier
The Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM), introduced several years ago, is finding numerous applications thanks to its excellent performances in detecting and localizing ionizing radiation. متن کاملSingle photoelectron detection with a low-pressure gas electron multiplier coupled to a CsI photocathode
We have operated the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) coupled to a CsI photocathode for the detection of single UV photons. Gains of up to 10 000 were observed with a single GEM in pure hydrocarbons in the range 40}400 Torr. Using a double-GEM structure, we have detected single photoelectrons on a strip electrode. We have studied the single-electron detection e$ciency of the GEM, a crucial paramet...
متن کاملTheory of single-electron charging of quantum wells and dots.
Single-electron charging effects similar to those in small-area metallic tunnel junctions should take place in semiconductor heterostructures, in particular, small-area quantum wells. Our analysis shows that dc current-voltage characteristics of such a well should exhibit an interplay between single-electron charging and energy-quantization effects. Relative magnitude of the single-electron cha...
متن کاملInstrumentation for Studies of Electron Emission and Charging from Insulators
Making measurements of electron emission properties of insulators is difficult since insulators can charge either negatively or positively under charge particle bombardment. In addition, high incident energies or high fluences can result in modification of a material’s conductivity, bulk and surface charge profile, structural makeup through bond breaking and defect creation, and emission proper...
